after a long run, I finally felt safe enough to stop. the guards weren't following us anymore. i was, for the first time in my life, free from my mother's influence. he was right there, by my side, holding my hand. i lay down, closed my eyes, and felt his kiss. when i opened my eyes again, i saw the trees were protecting us. and i felt his breath upon my neck. i was safe.
